Question
Hello! I have a 10month old female papillon. Our living room is pretty long and so for play, she likes to be chased around it. She goes really fast up and down the room. After she does that a few times, she stops and has a coughing fit and almost vomits everytime. We also have carpet. I was wondering if this is normal behavior. Could the dust that she stirs up from her claws be getting into her mouth and bothering her? Or could this be something to do with a "stomach twist"? I would appreciate any advice! Thank you for your time and answer in advance!!

Answer
This dog needs to see the VETERINARIAN.  Reverse sneezing (where a dog appears to inhale and exhale in rapid succession) can be a reaction to something in the environment but shouldn't occur regularly or long enough for the dog to vomit.  Your Pap's behavior may be actual coughing as the result of a tracheal malformation or even a heart condition.  SHE NEEDS TO SEE THE VET.
