Question
QUESTION: I have a 9yr old Jack Russel and a 3yr old Pitt/boxer mix and just got a 3mt old Rott/chow mix. i have heard a lot of stories about chow mixes being very aggressive and i want to is that true. the chow mix has a bad attitude problem already, and bites and barks a lot. I want to know that when she gets older she will not attack anyone or one of my older dogs. Thank you so much..

ANSWER: This is a very bad combination and your extremely young puppy is already demonstrating a serious behavior problem.  Dog bite statistics for 2008 indicate that two breeds (out of four) most responsible for maiming/killing (dog to human aggression) are the Rottweiler and the Chow Chow; the Chow is a dominant independent dog, as is the Rottweiler, requiring VERY CAREFUL management as puppies in order to be certain aggression does not develop.  I suggest you find a behavior specialist to assist you in determining temperament in this puppy and teach you how to train using positive reinforcement as well as HEAVILY SOCIALIZE THIS PUPPY every DAY beginning NOW.  To find such an expert, see this site:

QUESTION: Is the chow the only breed with a blue purple tongue???

Answer
The Shar Pei also has a black tongue; some mixed breeds have black spots on their tongues that are considered pigmentation (and most likely have black spots under the coat on their bodies even if the hair itself is not black.)  You need to find an expert to help you.  This puppy is QUITE YOUNG to be demonstrating so much aggression (barking at people and biting.)  Even this is a fear related behavior, it doesn't matter to the future of this dog.  She needs careful evaluation for temperament and a program of training, socializing and behavior modification or you are going to end up with an aggressive dog.
