Your dog eating grass is craving it and his body needs the nutrients that are in it, so I will explain why is my dog is eating grass. Why my dog eats grass? - Nutrients. When he is in taking enough of the nutrients from the green you give him you will not see him trying to eat the lawn. Your pet dog eats grass because their bodies need it. Yet, every pet owner has seen their dogs eating grass and then throw up sometimes after eating it from the lawn. This is because they are not wild dogs used to eating the blades, so you will need to adjust their systems to what they are craving and need.

Start with very small amount

I cannot stress enough that when you begin this feeding you start only with a small fraction of a teaspoon in order to adjust the pets digestion to it. Grass for dogs to eat can be grown by you.  One tablespoon of the blades you are going to grow per each 50 lbs a pet weighs is plenty enough. You should increase it to the recommended amount, though gradually. Be sure you either cut and chop it up, or blend it with other food and only begin with a very small part of a teaspoon at first. This is part of the adjustment process.

Grow your own

Instead of picking it from the lawn you are going to grow it and store it in the refrigerator! You will cut it when it has grown 6 or more inches high. Put it in a zip-lock bag and having squeezed the air out of the bag seal it. Do not store for more than 14 days, after that it is time to throw it out and cut some more of your home grown.

Cleanse

It cleanses the bowels and helps remove impurities, mucus, and other bad critters. Chlorophyll was and is used in anemia, infections, ulcers, skin diseases, and even pain relief. Chlorophyll is found in all green plants. For a pet it is like a natural remedy.  It has in it amino acids, vitamins, enzymes and minerals. As mentioned it also works a cleansing agent helping to eliminate through bowel movements some of the worms a pet may have. It does not kill worms or eggs, so you will still need to worm your pet.

Rye

Grow rye. Place a cup of rye seed in a quart of water for about 10 hours, drain the container, then place in a dark area that is reasonably warm. In about 48 hours you will see a tiny root, white, sprouting. In a garden tray on top of moist potting soil spread out your rye sprouts. Cover the tray for another 48 hours. Uncover, water completely, then put the tray in sunlight or under a grow light and keep moist. Once it is 6 inches tall you can cut it with scissors, and as mentioned above refrigerate. Every couple of week you should be able to cut more of the rye with scissors.

Grow healthy

So, for a more healthy pet grow your own at home. By feeding them you help them with health problems such as anemia, tumors, diarrhea, excessive shedding, and a host of other potential problems including arthritis in dogs which I have written about on Infobarrel. By the way with a similar procedure you can grow your own lemon as well!

It has a reason, dog eating grass is for its health, this is why - so when you ask why - the answer is, because nature uses it for maintaining his health.
