Question
Dear Robyn Rhudy,
Hi!My name is Kelly and I have a question about Butterflies. Can you help me?I don't know what to feed them.

Answer
Butterflies will visit a pond but this isn't really a pond question.  Are you feeding caterpillars or adults?  Are these captive butterflies or wild ones?  Caterpillars eat various plants but which plants depends on the species.  These are host plants.  For monarch butterflies, the hosts are milkweed species.  Adult butterflies drink nectar from flowers.  Pick sweet-smelling flowers that are bright in color.  Butterflies like butterfly bush.  You can also feed nectar out of fake flowers with 1 part sugar to 2 parts water. There are many butterfly web sites out there.  Good luck!
