Can gold fish live ina dirt pond?

Question
We will be moving and I have been looking for a new home for my gold fish.  I have had them in a lined pond and they are about 8 years old.  A woman from church just built a small dirt pond and said she was planning to get fish.  She seems like she would take care of them, but i am concerned about moving them. I am not sure if they can live in a dirt pond as it looks murkier than my pond...any advice?  Or advice on how to find a new good home?

Answer
Hi Genie:  They should do fine in a dirt pond... I would ask the woman with the dirt pond to check the water chemistry before I put the fish in there.  It is important that the two ponds be similar in water chemistry as well as temperature.  Most fish stores will test the water for free. If her pond is new it may not yet be cycled and that may also be why it is still murky.  www.craigslist.com is a good place to look for perspective homes for your fish.... Also... Fish store or pond stores in the area may also be willing to take your fish in and find them homes.   Hope this helps... dave
