correct time to feed racehorses

Question
hello ma'am, what is the correct time to feed thoroughbred racehorses, both in morning and night?

Answer
Hello Rohit,

Thank you for your question.  Horses are designed to be trickle feeders, which means that they thrive on eating smaller but more frequent meals.  So spreading feedings over the course of the day, and making each grain feeding only a few pounds at a time is best.  If you feed large amounts of grain (as in the diet you described to me in an earlier question) you will want to feed grain at least 2 times a day, and preferably 3-4 times a day.  It's also best to feed large amounts of grain at least 2 hours before heavy exercise or racing.

Thanks, Corlena
