Hi
First of all I have to tell you that I live in Thailand.  My question is, do I need a partner for my conues?  Now my conues(his name is Ruffles) is almost 1 yr. old.  I got him since he is about 2 month.  Now he is really stick with me.  Whenever i go back home, he will be on my head or shoulder all the time.  I love him a lot and he stay with me in my bedroom. No cage.  I go out to work about 5 or 6 hrs. everyday. After work I stay home with him.  Only me and him at home.  Does he feel lonly?  Should I get another conues to be his friend?  I love him like my baby.  Hope you reply me soon.  Sorry for my English might nor perfect.  Thank you.

Answer
Cherry,

Your English is just fine. I had no trouble understanding you as I answer questions from people all around the world.

If you want Ruffles to continue to be the wonderful friend that he has been, do not get another bird to keep him company. If you do get another bird, he will probably grow to like that bird more than he does you. OR, he might not accept the other bird at all because of his attachment to you and then will try to harm that bird.  Just make sure he has plenty of toys and things to keep him occupied when he is gone. You might also want to turn on a radio and see what kind of music he seems to like. When you find out what that is, you can turn on his favorite radio station when you are away.

One final thing I would like to add; you really need to have a cage for him to be in when you are away. Birds are very curious and will get themselves hurt or killed quickly when allowed to roam unsupervised. A cage is not cruel but is in fact a place he can get rest and feel secure when he is alone. Get a nice cage, put plenty of safe and colorful bird toys in it and put him inside when you are gone to work. I bet you will feel better and have a much happier bird.

Good luck!
