QuestionI had a mouse (Snowy) that died about 2 and a 1/2 weeks ago. (*Very Sad* buried her in back yard) I know for a fact that she had mites. When she died her stomach was very deflated and she was extremely weak. I have fed her special hamster waffles baked with chlorophyll about 2 days before she died. I was wondering if this could have been the reason for her death, and if i can feed the waffles to my current mouse (Ginny).
AnswerDear Jenn,
I do not think the problem was with the hamster waffles, though as a precaution I wouldn't give them to Ginny, because you never know what might turn out to be poisonous for a different species. For example, mice can eat arsenic and we can't. Yet avocado pits kill them. There are so many other yummy things to give her.
When a mouse has mites its immune system weakens and it can get sick and die of other things. She may have had a virus or other infection. The mites themselves can also cause severe illness. It's not like dogs or cats, who can live with fleas but just itch a lot. The empty tummy is also likely because she was too ill to eat.
I'm so sorry about your last mouse and wish Ginny a long, healthy, and happy life with you.
