smelly cocker!!

Question
my mother recently adopted a 6 year old cocker spaniel. i live across the country so i am not able to go to the vet with her. this dog has a smell that is so strong she has to bathe him at least once a week just to be able to handle the smell. her vet said some dogs just stink, ant to try a fish oil capsule. what can we do about the smell? what can be causing it? (we dont think its his teeth.) thanks. any help would be appreciated.

Answer
I would think the vet would have checked his ears for infection, an common cause of excessive odor.  Could he be rolling in his feces in his relief area or something else stinky?  Prompt clean up and preventing access to anything else will solve that problem.  Beyond that, I am out of answers.  Nobody knows them all, and some problems don't have a good solution.
