Question
Hi Wendy -

We had a sweet little 8 month (according to our vet) "blue heeler" dropped of on our property.  Very sweet, sensitive and extremely smart.  We've always had Goldens so I've been doing research on this breed.  She seems pretty typical and the only problem we are having with her is that when she is fussed at about nipping at my ankles, she will flop down on her belly and actually grab one of my ankles with both front feet to hold me or (the strangest thing I've ever seen an animal do!) she will flop down on her side and VERY QUICKLY weave herself in and around my legs - almost like tying my ankles up! I've got to find some way to stop her from this as I really hate falling. :-)  Any suggestions and is this anything you've seen before?

Answer
Hi Marti, This is fairly typical behavior for an ACD!They can be very manipulating...to say the least, but, she will be the smartest dog you will ever own. The behavior is aggravating, but the cure is quite simple. Get a spray bottle that you can adjust the nozzle...fill it with one half vinegar, one half water. Adjust it to a fan type spray(not a mist).Set her up and hide the bottle behind your back. The instant she starts to chose the behavior, say "no" and squirt her directly in the face. Then try to get her to repeat. Use this technique and in no time...she will find something else to annoy you. Let her know that the bottle will be used for other irritating behaviors...works like a charm! Wendy
