My Yorkshire Terrier bully

Question
Hi, I have 2 dogs-a Yorkshire Terrier bitch(16 months old) and a male Shi Tzu(13 months old). I was planning to breed from them in the future but my little Yorky has other ideas! She is very controlling of the male despite him being stronger than her and slightly larger-he has become very submissive and quite scared of her. Many times she has presented herself to him and encourages him to mate with her, but when he tries she then turns and bites him!
When interacting with me she knows that she isn't the leader of the pact, and I don't encourage her to be dominate-but she is definitely showing signs of trying to dominate the male!
Apart from this there are no problems with my 2 little dogs-they are very well behaved and obedient.
Why is she behaving like this? Do i need to take them to see a professional?

Answer
Hi Portia,

You may want to consider moving away from that dominating theory, it's not that way at all! Dogs do what works, if her behavior towards your other dogs gets her what she wants she will repeat that behavior.

That trick of sniffing her back end and the attacking is aggression with no confidence, maybe they are not a mating pair. You may want to ask that question on the breeding experts page.

Yes, I encourage you to seek help from a professional, if for no other reason than to gain some clarity from someone who is right there seeing it. Try www.ccpdt.com

Good luck!
