introducing a english bull terrior to a staffordshire bull terrior

Question
I have a male Staffordshire bull terrior called Alfie who is two years old. My partner and I have always admired the English Bull Terrior breed and would love to introduce one to Alfie and have one of our own. The apprehension is that Alfie can be unsocial with other breeds but sometimes this is hard to read as boystrous play or aggression. What sex would be best to introduce and do this breed gel together well?

Answer
Hi

If you are getting another dog a bitch would be best.  Two bull breeds can work well together as they are similar in natures, but this can also mean they can be competitive.  It really depends on how Alfie is with other dogs so this needs to be assessed professionally.  Also remember how he behaves with dogs he meets out will be very different to how he reacts to a dog in his home, with 'his' toys/bed/people around to protect.

Do you have friends with dogs who could come to visit?  This may be a good way to assess if you feel Alfie is safe.  Tread very carefully as if you are happy with Alfie there may be no point risking upsetting the mix - perhaps he is enough for now and an EBT can be a breed you get in the future.

All the best
