Necessary Rottweiler Care

The Rottweiler is a breed of dog that is very large, stocky, muscular, and powerful. They are typically quite calm and even-tempered, and are usually very versatile as well. When well trained they can do almost anything, and most Rottweilers are easy to train, especially if you get one when it is still a young puppy.

You can even make your own dog food if you want, just make sure that you discuss this with your veterinarian first because it is always wise to check before switching your dog’s food. The most basic dog food recipe would include ingredients such as eggs, meats, vegetables and starches. Remember to refrigerate any leftover portions so that they stay fresh and can be fed to your dog at a later date.

Vaccinations are a very important part of Rottweiler care. If you have your dog as a puppy you will need to have them vaccinated and then follow up with yearly booster vaccinations in order to maintain their immunity to diseases. Worming is also necessary and should be done at least once every few months.

Also, as with all dogs, they require a proper nutrition, a clean environment and routine veterinary checkups. Heartworm, flea and tick prevention is always recommended, as is getting all the necessary vaccines at the appropriate times.

Training is also considered as being a part of overall Rottweiler care, and this breed is not only highly capable of learning but they actually thrive on training. Even the young Rottweiler puppies have an amazing capacity to learn, and keep in mind that the earlier you start training them, the better off you are going to be.

One issue that is often neglected when it comes to Rottweiler care is illness. Of course proper grooming and good Rottweiler nutrition is important, but you also need to know that Rottweilers are prone to certain health problems, such as hip and elbow dysplasia and Von Willebrand’s Disease.

Also remember that although the idea Rottweiler is quiet, even-tempered and obedient, personalities will vary from one dog to another. Especially if you get a Rottweiler who is already grown, you can never really be sure of their behavior patterns until you have had them and lived with them for a while.

Boredom in particular can lead to behavior problems so make sure that you get them out and keep them active. A Rottweiler should be owned be only extremely responsible people, who are willing to offer the care, training and compassion that their dog needs. The owner should also be knowledgeable on the breed and the care that is required.
