4 Common Pet Problems and How to Treat Them

Just like people, our pets deal with a lot of issues that emerge unexpectedly, such as itchy skin or stomach pain. Have you ever find yourself in a situation where you cannot help your best buddy when in pain? Being unable to help your buddy really hurts you both. Our lifestyles, tight budgets and jobs make it impossible to take your pet to the vet every time he seems a little down. What we can do is learn our pets' most common problems and the solutions that can be done in our homes using nothing but natural ingredients. Below are four natural remedies that are recommended for some of the most common problems our pets deal with.

Bad Breath

Pet owners who occasionally sleep with their dogs have their bad breath. It is a known fact that dogs have a stinky breath and the reason is a bacteria present in the mouth. To clean up this bacteria, add herbs like coriander or margose in the daily diet of your dog. To make it more likely for your dog to eat its plate, mix these herbs with a canine toothpaste, if you are already using it. Another way is to boil a sprinkling of herbs in water for a couple of minutes and give it to your dog when it's cool. If your dog refuses to drink it, use a spray bottle and spray it out in his mouth.

Fleas

We all hate fleas, not because they cause itchy skin and is difficult to fully get rid of them, but because they do not allow us to keep our homes clean. One natural remedy for fleas is cedar oil, a type of oil derived from the wood, leaves and roots of the cedar tree. It is naturally flea repellent and is a great solution for getting rid of fleas. Mix about five drops of this oil with a few water-teaspoons. Then, dip your dog's cloth with this mixture and put it around your dog's neck. The oil doesn't kill fleas, but its bad smell will make your dog's fur not a comfortable home.

Itchy Skin

If your dog is experiencing any kind of itchiness, made him a homemade oatmeal bath to cure his itchy skin. Whether it is recovering from fleas or has an irritated, itchy skin, prepare a bath for your dog with warm water and a cup of plain oatmeal. You can use a blender or food processor to cut the oats to smaller pieces, so they will dissolve quicker. Use this bath at least three times a week and your dog will retain its soft skin.

Upset Stomach

If your dog is feeling unwell with an upset stomach, the best thing you can do is add a little yogurt to his dinner. The yogurt is able to help your dog's digestive system to digest foods and replenish the good kind of bacteria that is gone to vomiting or diarrhea. Keep in mind to use a plain yogurt, not a flavoured one which contains artificial taste enhancements that are not recommended for dogs.
