How to Spoil a Guinea Pig

How to Spoil a Guinea Pig. Spoiling pets is what animal lovers do and there are several ways to spoil your guinea pig to show him that you love his company. If you give your guinea pig special treatment often enough, you will find that he even "oinks" to say thank you.

Things Needed

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Packaged guinea pig treats
  • Timothy hay
  • Small animal brush or comb
  • Towel
  • Running ball and toys

Step 1

Giving your guinea pig positive feedback will make him happy. Spoil your guinea pig by giving him nicknames and calling him those names often. He will begin to respond to your loving nicknames with happy grunts of joy.

Step 2

Feeding your guinea pig fresh fruit and vegetables is a great way to spoil him. Guinea pigs need extra vitamin C in their diets, so try offering him raw baby carrots, a leaf of spinach or a sprig of cilantro a few times week.

Step 3

Spoiling your guinea pig with a variety of pre-packaged guinea pig treats is a great option, too. Yogurt drops, dried fruit medleys and calcium chew toys are all available at larger pet stores. Be sure to feed these treats in moderation, so your guinea pig doesn't get overweight.

Step 4

Chewing on Timothy hay is essential for all guinea pigs, so why not spoil yours with a variety of Timothy hay products. In addition to loose hay, you can spoil your guinea pig with hay pellets, hay cubes and even calcium treats stuffed with Timothy hay in the middle.

Step 5

Tossing around plush or plastic toys for your guinea pig is another good way to spoil him. A multi-colored plush cube and plastic shaped rattles are just two of a guinea pig's favorite toys.

Step 6

Brushing, combing and petting your guinea pig is also enjoyable for your pet. Spoil him by giving him some one-on-one attention while you watch a show on TV or read from your computer screen. Lay a towel in your lap, and let him sit on the towel. This will collect any loose fur that falls out, and save you from a pair of wet pants if he decides to urinate.

Step 7

Running in a small animal ball is another way to spoil your guinea pig. Allowing your pet to have free run of a hard floor in your home, within the safe confines of a running ball, can give your pet lots of exercise. If possible, spoil your pet with this time out of his cage a few times week.

Warnings

  • Do not overfeed fresh items to your guinea pig. Too many raw fruits and vegetables may give him diarrhea.
  • Never leave your guinea pig unattended while playing with him outside of his cage. The small animal could get lost in heating vents, under appliances or fall down steps.
