Question
about 3  weeks ago i brought  fancy goldfish which are relatively small and one of them did die, so i wanted to buy another one but brought one that is a bit bigger than my one and with the bulgy eyes.. the new one keeps nudging the smaller one and the smaller one does sometimes lie on his side as if he is hiding.. i took the one that is being bullied out of the tank ad into a fish bowl, my tank is a 10 litre tank.... please help me i dont think my other fish likes the bowl too mcu.

Answer
The goldfish with the large eyes is called a telescope-eyed goldfish.  How big are the goldfish?  If the big one is over 3 or 4 inches long, it might be a male who wants to breed with a female.  If they are smaller than that, then the big fish may just be bullying the smaller one for no reason or just from boredom.  If you buy them a larger tank, I suggest 10 times larger, then that will help.  Goldfish should have at least 10-20 gallons per fish.  That's 38 to 76 liters.  A 100 L tank would be good.  The bowl is even worse for goldfish.  Even fancy goldfish can grow to 8 inches long.

I think with a larger home and more places to hide, the bullying would decrease.  My page on goldfish is at http://www.fishpondinfo.com/gfish.htm

Good luck!
