Monk Parrot, beak

Question
I just noticed last night that my parrots beak looks almost like it is "peeling"? Almost like how fingernails can peal sometimes. Is this something that I should be allarmed about? Cleo is 7 months old.

I have one monk parakeet. I do not know the sex. I was just wondering, if it is a female will it lay any eggs? If so at what age does this usually occur? Thank you.

-----Answer-----
Hi, Tiffaney.  Thanks for posting!

It might lay eggs and it might not...it just depends on what happens when it's hormones start raging (and if it's female).  Not all female parrots lay eggs (whether they are with a male or not).

A female Quaker (monk) parakeet could physically be able to lay eggs from about 9 months on up (this doesn't mean they are old enough to breed however).

Answer
Hi again, Tiffaney.

Your Quaker's beak is made out of the same type of material our fingernails are made from.  Yes, it's normal for it's beak to look like you describe.  The beak grows constantly like our finger/toenails do, and it also chips, peels, etc., like our nails do.
