Aussie undercoat

Question
We spend summers in Indiana and Winters in Southwest Florida. I just spoke to a groomer here in Florida who says she will strip the undercoat.  Is this a good idea or not?  What are the pros and cons. Please answer asap as my dog has a grooming appointment and I don't know what to do.
Thank you.

Answer
Aussies have an all weather double coat, and no "stripping" is necessary.  That doesn't mean that you should not have your dog groomed so that the dead undercoat is removed, which can be accomplished by using a good shampoo, such as Ultra Best Shot or Davis, and being blown dry and correctly line brushed - you want the dead coat gone, but you don't want to remove the natural insulative qualities of the coat.  If you are in doubt, less messing with the coat is better.  Just make sure your dog always has adequate shade, and water.
