Weird behavior upon return from vacation

Question
My fiance and left our 5 1/2 month old goldendoodle puppy with our parents over night while we went away.  It was her first time being puppy sat overnight.  When we came to pick her up, she came to the door saw us and ran into another room and peed.  My fiance followed her to the room she went to and saw that she peed and walked towards her to pick her up (our normal procedure leftover from potty training) and she growled at him.  Once he let her sniff his hand he picked her up and took her outside.  By the time he put her on the grass she was happy and excited like we would expect her to be.  Why would she react this way??  Is this anything we should worry about?  Her "grandparents" said she had a good time with them and had been well behaved.  She is normally a very happy and outgoing dog although she has been randomly a little afraid of things she hasn't been afraid of before.

Answer
Your dog appears to have a tendency toward fear aggression and misinterpreting events around her.  It's possible she was confused by the weekend shuffle, but this behavior is something you need to bring to the attention of your veterinarian immediately.  You also need the help of a certified applied animal behavior expert; your dog's overall temperament should be evaluated and instructions given to you on how to counteract any genetically obtained fear response, as well as how to introduce positive reinforcement training and continue to carefully socialize this dog to be sure she does not acquire any further fear behaviors.  Contact the veterinary college closest to you and ask for a referral to a Ph.D. or DVM behavior expert, especially one knowledgeable in the treatment of developing fear aggression.
