spoiled Lhasa Apso

we just recently got a Lhasa Apso  from and older lady who can no longer take care of him. i have a 18 month old son and him and the Lhasa Apso are fighting for toys. the dog is very over protective over its toys and i was just wondering what i can do to break this behaver. i have all ready tried taking the toy out of the dogs mouth and putting it in my own the dog just growls and snaps at me. I'm worried that it might snap at my son what can i do?

How old is the dog? How long have you had him? What kind of games does he like to play with you? Does he ever pester you to be petted? If so, do you pet him, ignore him, or push him away? Does he get a chance to play with other doggies on a regular basis? Does he have his own den (a crate), where he can chew on his toys in private? How much hard vigorous playful exercise does he get every day?
