puppy poops when i leave

Question
Today I got a 10 week old dane puppy from a woman who rescued her from a hoarder house type situation. She has food aggression, which I'm familiar with and have already started to work with and she IS improving with just two meals. I just have another problem with her.. whenever i leave the house, she poops. She'll do regular poop outside where she's supposed to, but when i leave she diarrhea's about 3 feet from the front door and i hear her crying SO loud. And i don't have to leave for a long time either. I went to take the trash out earlier and she did it. I was outside MAYBE 2 minutes at the MOST. The second time, I tried putting her in her kennel when I went to check the mailbox (forgetting that today is Sunday) and she did it in her kennel. I don't know what to do. I start back at work in 2 weeks, so i can't ALWAYS be with her. I love her dearly already (as i've spent time with her in the past week before she came permanently into my life) and would NEVER consider getting rid of her, as all three of my animals were rescues and couldn't imagine EVER putting them back out like that, but i do want to resolve this issue before it becomes in a sense life-controlling for both me and baby. I asked the woman i got her from if she did this with her and she said she never even heard of that problem. She loves my two kittens and the kittens love her also. They play and sleep together as if they're the same species from the same litter, so it cant be that she's scared of them. She's a good puppy though. I live in a complex and she'll walk next to me with no leash and go to the bathroom outside when I'm with her. I've already taught her 'sit' and 'come here' and when she starts to stray off she'll come and I'll tell her sit and she'll listen. She can learn quick, I as the human just don't know what to do.. please help! Thanks. *Stacey

Answer
While separation anxiety is overly diagnosed, this really sounds like what you may be dealing with. I'd talk to the vet and see if he can suggest any medication for anxiety for a pup this young. And here's a really good article on the subject. Hopefully you'll be able to make some progress before you have to go back to work. http://www.clickersolutions.com/articles/2002/sa.htm
