Acting fearful of other family member

Question
I adopted a 18 month old male neutered toy fox terrier named Loki two weeks ago. His owner gave him up as she was over her limit on the number of dogs she could have. He is social with other dogs and is ok with cats. He is also social with other people except for my 17 year old daughter. When she comes into my room or just walks close to him he barks at her and runs away acting very fearful of her. She is an animal lover and is not acting aggressive towards him, in fact she is calm around him, so I am wondering why he reacts this way to her. I have had other visitors in my home and he does not react this way with them. I have corrected him when he starts to growl at her with just a ah ah and when he is redirected like that he will actually then go up to her and smell her. This is not our first dog but the only dog at present.

Answer
Instead of correcting (even slightly like you are doing verbally) try having your daughter be the giver of all things: food, walks, playtime etc for a period of time.

Your daughter may look like someone or remind Loki of someone  he/she has not had a not good experience with.

It's important to not squelch the growl. It's a warning system and we want that in place!!
