Introducing a puppy

Question
Hi,
We currently have two dogs, one Rotti dog 3 years old who has nervous aggression when out on walks towards other dogs mainly or people with hats! and an old Weirmaneaner bitch now 13 who is totally placid and has just been a brilliant dog but is also getting very old on her back legs.  We have a big garden but are going to be moving to a farm in a few months.  Is it best to wait to move before getting the puppy or would it be better to introduce the puppy whilst still living in our current location.  The rotti has only ever known this home and am a bit concerned if he will become even more nervous moving to a new home and be less tolerant of a new puppy.  What would you say is the best way to do this.  The puppy is another weirmanear bitch as didnt think a dog would be a good idea.. and know out current one is dominant over our dog so therefore want her as the role model as such!

Answer
If you have a male Rottie who is not dog friendly, your best chance for success would be with a puppy of opposite gender and the younger the better.  You should work with a reputable breeder who is willing to accept the puppy back if things do not work out, and who is willing to take the time to have you introduce your present dogs to the puppy on neutral territory (NOT at either of your homes).  Most adult dogs tolerate very young puppies, but there are some that bully puppies, too.  I like the idea of getting the puppy, then making the move all together, rather than upsetting your dogs' routine and then expecting them to adjust to such a significant change.  Also, do not discount the possibility of your Weimaraner being intolerant of a young pup because of her physical condition.  She may be just fine, but you won't know until you try.  Again, really critical to deal with a reputable breeder, not just buy from the Internet or a back yard breeder.
