Quick and Easy Dog Food Recipes

There have been several scares over the past few years over the safety and quality of store bought dog food. These scares have led a number of dog owners to give a little more thought to exactly what they put into their dog抯 dish and some have even turned to cooking for Fido!

If you are ready to try your hand at canine cuisine why not get started with one of the following easy to make recipes? Your dog will love you for it. All of these recipes are easy and inexpensive to make and offer you a way to give your dog, whatever his breed or age a tasty alternative to store bought food.

Lamb and Rice Dog Dinner

1lb ground lamb

1-2 cups brown rice

2 stalks cooked Broccoli

2 or 3 medium cooked potatoes

3 medium cooked carrots

Begin by browning off the lamb in a skillet while boiling four to five cups of plain water in a large saucepan or crockpot. Cube the potatoes and chop carrots then add them to the lamb. When lamb and vegetables are cooked add them to the now boiling water together with the brown rice. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for approximately one hour and then serve when cool.

Garlic Flavored Dog Biscuits

2 1/2 c Flour, whole wheat

1/2 c Powdered milk

1/2 ts Salt

1/2 ts Garlic powder

1 ts Sugar, brown

6 tb Meat drippings or margarine

1 Eggs, beaten

1/2 c Ice water

Pre heat your oven to 350 and lightly grease a cookie sheet. In a large bowl combine together the flour, powdered milk, salt, garlic powder and sugar. Cut up the meat drippings until their texture resembles corn meal and add to the bowl. Lastly mix in the egg. If necessary add a little water until the mixture is soft enough to easily form a ball. The dough can now be cut with a cookie cutter in the same way as you would 揾uman cookies? Bake the cookies for 25-30 minutes and allow the biscuits to cool before you give them to your pup.

Bacon Bits For Dogs

6 slices cooked bacon, crumbled

4 eggs, well beaten

1/8 cup bacon fat

1 cup water

1/2 cup non-fat dry milk powder

2 cup graham flour

2 cup wheat germ

1/2 cup cornmeal

Mix together all the ingredients (you will need a strong spoon) then drop tablespoons of the mixture only a greased cookie sheet spread out at 1 inch intervals. Bake for 15 minutes at about 350. For the best taste leave to cool overnight before serving.
