Virtual Pet Adoption Teaches Kids Patience

When it comes to children, sometimes they can be a bit rampant with impatient and sometimes its hard to try and get them to do one thing at a time let alone one thing for very long. A few weeks ago I was checking out some websites for my little cousin, who constantly wants to get into everything. Hes a boy, what can I say! Boys love experimenting with what they can get away with and what they cant. Needless to say, I wanted to find something I could do with him online that he would really enjoy and something that would "catch" his attention for longer than 5 minutes at a time! I found one thing in particular called VPA or virtual pet adoption. The way it works is you can adopt online pets through websites.

These pets are like electronic or computer pets, to where they obviously aren't real but real enough to cause some sort of excitement in your little ones. These "pets" can be adopted through your account and then you can take care of the pet. The cool thing about this is that you really can let your child get involved with it. He or she can pick the pet (dog, monkey, lion, frog, fish, cat, etc) and he or she can also pick out what they want the pet to look like. This can include coloring, clothing, accessories, etc. My cousin picked a green and brown monkey named Alfie and for fun just to see what he could get away with he gave the monkey an accessory to boot; a dog bone. The kids can pretty much do any sort of an animal that they want along with any accessory they want.

Most of these websites are free but I did see a few paid ones. Assuming these paid ones are like every other website membership online, the paid membership probably includes some nice "perks". Depending on which site you join the sign up process should be very easy and your little guy or girl can play with the pet either online or offline. This can also teach responsibility as well because you need to take care of your pet. This includes walks, play time, baths, etc. I have to say, this "concept" kept my cousin going for at least an hour. He absolutely could not get enough of his green and brown monkey. Who knows, maybe your child will love this as much as my cousin!
