Dog Walking and Pet Sitting

I love dogs and dogs love me. And one of the reasons that they love me is because when I ring the door bell, they know that I am there for one purpose only, to take them out for a walk. Because dog walking is not just my profession, it is my favorite activity. I collect your dog and take him on an adventure, but one where he will be safe and happy. He can be taken out on his own, or with a friend or two, or as part of a bigger group, whichever he prefers and feels most comfortable with. He will go out on the kind of walk that suits him best, whether it is a quiet and leisurely stroll around the block for my more elderly customers, or an energetic game or sprint around the park for the younger and livelier ones.

Dogs need walks. They are not designed to be confined in one small place all day long and definitely not every day. Even if they have the most luxurious kennel in the world, they will feel like prisoners if they never get to leave it. They will get bored, and boredom can lead to a whole range of undesirable activities like barking, whining, howling, scratching at the door, chewing things and even becoming aggressive.

Dogs should be walked at least once a day. Dogs discover a lot of things when they are out on their walks. It is not just their bodies which get exercised, but also their minds. They get to see, smell and hear everything that is going on around them. For them going for a walk is like reading a newspaper or gossiping with the neighbors, they find out who has been around, if there is anyone new in the neighborhood, and how many cats have entered their territory.

Different dogs have different exercise needs. The working breeds, like collies, shepherds, cattle dogs and herding dogs have a huge exercise need, and they can become very distressed and destructive if they are not exercised sufficiently.

Terriers also need to run around and stimulate their senses, as they are lively and intelligent.

Toy breeds have big personalities in little bodies, so they too need to strut out and greet the world.

Even the oldest, heavier mixed breed dog benefits from getting out there, stretching his/her muscles and seeing what is going on. Big or small, old or young, shy or bold, energetic or a couch potato, your dog needs their walks.

I also do pet-sitting while you are away on vacation. Dogs need company, and they also need to feel that somewhere is home. If you need to be away, your pet can stay in his own home, in a familiar environment where he knows all the sights, smells, sounds and routines. He will be fed his normal food, walked around his normal paths, sleep in his own bed. I will sit other kinds of pets as well, cats, fish, guinea pigs, birds, even reptiles.
