Wire storage cube grids
Cable ties
Carabiner clips

Step 1

Determine how big your rabbit's cage needs to be. The House Rabbit Society recommends that the cage be four times the size of your rabbit.

Step 2

Purchase office storage grids to build the sides of your rabbit's cage. Most grids are 12 to 14 inches in length and made of heavy duty coated wire. Under normal use, they snap together to form stacking organizational cubes for office supplies or other personal belongings. Grids are found in the office supply or home organization departments of many warehouse and office supply stores. They come in packages of 17 to 30 grids. Since they can be snapped together in any combination--not just in cubes--they are ideal for creating rabbit cages. If you want a 2 x 4 foot cage that is 3 feet high, you will need to ensure that you have a total of 36 grids.

Step 3

Purchase custom cut coroplast from a sign shop--mention that you're using the material for a rabbit cage. Sometimes shops will charge less if they know you're not going to make a sign with the material. The coroplast sheet will cover the floor of the rabbit cage, so a cage that is 2 x 4 grids will need a coroplast sheet that is roughly 2 x 4 feet in length.

Step 4

Place your coroplast sheet on the floor where you want your rabbit cage.

Step 5

Build the two long cage walls by joining the grids together with cable ties. A cage that is four grids long will need two walls that are comprised of 12 grids joined together, with four in each row.

Step 6

Build the two short cage walls. A cage that is two grids deep will need two walls that are comprised of six grids joined together--with two in each row.

Step 7

Join all four walls together, using cable ties on three sides. For the fourth, secure with carabiner clips. To open the cage for your rabbit to exit, remove the clips and open one side of the cage like a door.
