Can I Get My Omega-3s From Fish Tacos

I got a question I got from a sincere young man in southern California, where fish tacos are a menu staple, around the beach. While we have plenty of beach where I live, I don't recall this being a menu staple anywhere that I frequent.

I put in a call to a friend of mine, who knows a thing or two about cooking, and he walked me through exactly how fish tacos are made, in most cases, and his opinion was that a fish taco was no healthier than a burger, and in some cases, it could be worse. He called the fish taco a "health deception," except in rare cases where the fish was steamed, baked, or broiled, which he said he has sampled maybe twice in 20 years, and one of those times was in Peru.

Most fish tacos, according to him, were battered and fried, and then placed in a tortilla, that was often fried, in addition to being made with a generous amount of fat, to begin with. And most times, there was way more batter than fish.

So, to make a long story short for my young friend from southern California, the answer to your question is NO...you can't get your omega-3's from fish taco's.

Furthermore, to get all the omega-3's you need, you would have to eat a whole lot of fish -- more than you could stand, in most cases. And that would be true, even if you switched the kinds of fish you ate every time, so you wouldn't overdose on tuna or salmon, which aren't the best choices for omega-3's, even if they are the most palatable. The best way to get all the omega-3's that you need is by taking my ultra-pure pharmaceutical grade fish oil.

Here in the northeast, we don't eat a lot of fish tacos, but we do eat fried everything else. Fried clams, fried oysters, fish and chips, Hell...if it comes out of the ocean, somebody here has tried to fry it. And once in a while, it's okay to eat this kind of thing. But don't make it a habit, and don't think that you can get your omega-3's this way, either.
