Bird Collar

Question
I have a 10month old a.G. named Paco.  For the last couple of months Paco has been plucking.  I finally haqd to purchase a collar (from a vet who installed) to keep him from plucking.  I am also misting him with pluck no more. What is your opinion on this, and can you give any other advice?  Thanks

Answer
I wouldnt use the spray as it tends to just irritate the parrot more as it wont be able to preen himself. I feel that jumpers are better than collars, as its very stressful for a bird to have something around its neck and theres also the risk of strangulation. Thats just my views though. Your bird is very young and wont stop plucking unless you find out the cause. Do you mist him regularly with warm water to let him groom? What is his diet like? What has happened in his environment that could be stressing him out and causing him to pluck? Has you vet ruled out medical causes like dietary imbalance or parasites? Does anyone smoke near your parrot or spray any air fresheners? If you give me more info I will try to help you more. Whats his environment like, cage and toys? Good luck
