alexandriane parakeets tail cut

QUESTION: Hi i brought an alexandriane parakeet yeaterday but noticed his tail had been cut quite alot. when i went back to the dealer i found out that he had left the country for some family problems.

my question is that will my alexandrine parakeet tail fall of while molting and grow back to his normal size. i am qite worried please email me as soon as possible
ANSWER: it is hard to tell without a picture how severe this is the tail feather should have NEVER been cut. Your bird feather won't just fall off but what should happen is new feathers will grow in and once they are in the other feathers will come off leaving him with new feathers. be patient tail feathers take quite awhile to replace each other. You did the right thing by going to the breeder to bad he couldn't help you.

QUESTION: hi my alexandriane parakeets tail has been cut but still has a small tail left.
i wanted to know when the alexandriane parakeet molt will his tail fall off when new one arrives and grow back to his normal size with the original shape of his tail.
also could you please tell me when this will happen and is their any food that i should give him to molt faster.

please tell me immediately because i am worried for him.

OK the very best thing to do would be to take him to an AVIAN vet to give you all the information you want. the tail is made up of many feathers they won't all fall out at once. It will take lots of time and it may never full grow back. I don't think any food will make him molt faster just keep feeding him a healthy diet of fruits nuts veggies a few seeds and lots of pellets. You can freuently mist him to keep the feathers he does have healthy.
