Question
QUESTION: Hi Kelsey, my horses are constantly getting their tail caught in our fences and pulling out strands of their tails.  I cannot keep them stabled all the time or put tail bags of them, and i am worried that if i braid/plaited their tails the fence will get caught in a braid/plaited part and pull a great big chunk out.  Any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hi Jenna :)
You didn't mention the type of fence you have but it sounds like barbwire. My suggestion is to put up a new fence. Here is a website of what is going on my property in about a month http://www.centaurhtp.com/index.html . I have been told great things about this fence, 1 is that your horses mane and tail do not get pulled out. I'm sorry I couldn't help you any farther :)

QUESTION: Hi Kelsey thankyou for getting back to me, sorry i should of said its barb wire, i can't but up a new fence because we had stock so we needed barb wire and i can't put up an electric fence as i can't offord that.

Answer
Hi again Jenna :)
Unfortunately this is a common problem with barbwire fences. The only luck I have had was putting up a new fence. Have you though about putting up a hot wire? Its a single electrified wire that runs the length of the fencing. I haven't used a hotwire in years but it was wonderful in keeping the horses from leaning against the fence we had at the time. I belive we bought it in a kit for $100. It came with wire, hotbox, and tabs. You may want to look and see if you can find any sales. Good luck and if you have any other questions I'm here for you :)
