Medication For Your Pet In Addition To Love

Most pet owners treat their pets as regular members of the family and that's putting it mildly. What is confounding, therefore, is that these same pet loving people often endanger the lives of their pets by not following the directions given to them by their veterinarian concerning the care of their pets. Pet owners who take the time and spend the money to take their pets to the vet should at least follow the instructions given by the vet.

First, pet medications should never be shared by any other pets in the household. It is surprising how many pet owners think that a pill, vitamin, or ointment prescribed for a family dog is good for a new puppy. A pet medication, for instance, that cures a family dog from some condition might well endanger the life of a puppy. The same could also be said about cats, kittens, birds or any other pet.

Second, make sure that such medications are given to the pet in the way that the veterinarian ordered. For example, if the vet prescribed capsules for the pet, it is important to give the capsule to the pet whole and not crush it.

Third, it is also vital to follow the proper dosage for drops. It is very easy to over medicate a pet with drops, which could seriously affect the pet's health.

And finally, some caring, but foolish owners cross the line and give human medications to their pets. Pills that are good for human consumption might seriously harm your pet. In fact, the number one reason many pets end up at the vet or even die is because they have ingested human medications--so pet owners should keep their loritabs and psycho pills to themselves.

Medications for your pet medications have become so numerous and varied that they rival the medications available for humans. There are medications for flea treatment, diarrhea, heart worms, enzymatic pills, glucosamine for energy, vaccinations for most anything that you can imagine, and on and on. Undoubtedly, there is even a pet medication for depression—and somewhere out there someone is probably selling pet pill boxes—and if they aren't, they should start up a business.

So learn to keep human medications out of the reach of pets and, above all, always consult with the vet before giving them any type of medication. Remember, also, that one of the very best medications for your pet is always love.
