Food specifically designed for dogs is the food that is right for your canine's consumption. There are many dog owners who prepare pet food at home which is healthy and nutritious as well as affordable. For those who do not have the time to prepare this meal, there are readymade food packets available at any vet store.

Dog food can be further classified into wet and dry food. Pet owners are apprehensive about the food their pets eat and whether it receives all the nutrients in the right proportion. One common question is whether the dogs can be fed with high a protein diet. It is a misconception that high protein dog food is harmful for your dog. It is a false assumption that high protein diets will cause problems for your canine, irrespective of whether you have a puppy or an aging dog.

A diet rich in protein is actually good for your dog since it improves your canine's skin and texture. If your canine has been detected with a kidney problem, then ideally you should feed him a diet which has moderate proteins and not low proteins. The problem nowadays is that pet owners fail to ignore the importance of providing their canine with a balanced and nutritious diet. An imbalanced protein diet could result in problems like greater stress and lesser immunity. A nutritious protein diet will prevent many a trip to the vet. A high calcium or fat diet is not advised and in its place a high protein diet is okay for active canines, but not for the sedentary types.

If your pet is very much happy with the current form of food you are feeding him, you could still make changes in the proteins intake. An addition of fresh foods and healthy foods like cottage cheese, eggs, meat, yogurt, and mackerel is healthy and sumptuous as well. It is recommended by vets to refrain from providing your canine with a high carb diet as it is likely to cause severe health and behavioural problems in your pet. Instead you could substitute it with proteins.

Resist over feeding your pets, as it could have serious repercussions on their health. Giant breed puppies should be fed the right quantity, as any excess could strain their joints and bones. Similarly, puppies which show a quicker growth rate are bound to have health related and hormonal problems. Never feed a puppy with adult dog food, as it would not be able to digest it.

Bigger dogs need to be fed with a rich protein diet as a diet low in proteins but high in carbohydrates can make them fat. A diet rich in high carbohydrate can also make your dog overeat and put on weight. Ideally, a high protein diet but a moderate fat diet is advised for a senior dog. Last but not the least, having a pet around is like having another baby. Hence, great care and attention needs to be given to the health needs of your pet.
