The Right Litter Box

Cats are fabulous creatures. Each cat has a distinct quality in terms of behavior and how it would react to the pet owner in times of play and on daily routines. Cats tend to be independent pets. There are times that it would be around and in the mood for play, other times it would just be there and do nothing at all or doze off for quite some time. There are also rare occasions that the cat is no where to be found. No matter what the quality of the pet cat may be proper care and attention is a must.

Most of the domestic cats are kept indoors. In this case, the issue on hygiene is a topic that has to be tackled. Cats have the habit of cleaning themselves by licking their paws, tummy and thighs. This of course they can do alone, but when it comes to answering the call of nature, the cat would need the help of their owners. If the owner chooses to put them outside when these times occur, well it would be fine as long as it will not disturb the neighbors in anyway. But again, one can never predict the exact time when the cat will do its thing, and this is another story.

The problem on kitty litter issues will be solved by purchasing a cat litter. Cat litters can come in plastic pans, self cleaning models or even deluxe motorized models. If the cat is still a kitten, it is advisable to buy a cat litter suitable for its size. A bigger litter can be purchased later on when the cat is fully grown.

The material for the litter should be something that is non-absorbent like plastic. It should be easy to clean with soap and water. Non-absorbent materials prevent the trapping of odors in the litter box. Fillers should also be considered to act as primary shields for the box. Choosing the right fillers greatly depend upon the pet owner. Some fillers are to be replaced daily, some may be replaced twice or thrice a week but would need to be replaced as a whole. Liners will be a great help for they will act as the strainers for the fillers and it will be easier for the pet owner to clean the litter box.

Aside from being known as independent animals, cats are also shy types so it will be a big deal for them to have some privacy at times. Cats will appreciate it if a cover will be placed on their litter box. Covers may be made of cloth, cartons or old newspapers.
