Wandering with Great Danes is incredibly a great way to relax and have fun. Imagine yourself and your gentle giant walking in the park, enjoying the moment in each other's company. The sight will definitely draw attention from the crowd. As much as it is fun for some dog owners, going out with dogs worries others because of the dangers that may possibly come along the way. But there is no need to worry every time you are out with your dog whether for exercise or a trip to the vet. All you need is a good dog collar to keep your dog safe and controlled. Dog collar does not just keep your dog safe and controlled when you are out, it is also an ideal tool in training your beloved dog.

There are wide variety of dog collars to choose from. You can choose from whatever size, color or style that best suits your dog. While style and color are also factors to consider in choosing your dog's collar, dog owner's must remember that they are just secondary compared to safety, use and convenience. A light ribbon collar in bright color looks good but it may not be appropriate when worn by your mighty Great Danes.

Buckle collars, also called flat collars are widely used. Identification is commonly attached in this type of collar. To prevent your dog from picking up flea while you're on the go, better use flea collar in addition to the conventional collar. These flea collars are impregnated with chemicals that repel fleas. As mentioned, collars are also used for the purposes of training dogs. Slip collars, prong collars and martingale collars are some of the collars used in training. Slip collars, also called choke chains, slip chains or choke collars form a loop around the top of the dog's neck just behind the ears. Dog owners or handlers should learn how to use this collar properly because improper use may lead to injury or even death because this collar has no limit to how far it can constrict on the dog's neck. Another type of collar used in training is prong collar. Prong collar, also called pinch collar is a series of chain links with blunted open ends turned towards the dog's neck. This collar pinches the loose skin around the dog's neck when tightened.

A dog collar could be made of nylon, metal, cotton or leather. To determine the size or width of collar that will perfectly fit your dog, measure your dog's neck and add on two to three inches. A collar should not be too loose nor too tight for your dog. And remember to use it properly. Ask an expert to be sure.
