Wildlife Removal And Animal Control - Bats

When bats decide they wish to live in a certain area of your home it is imperative that you take immediate action by arranging removal plans. Bats are a mostly protected species throughout the modern world, with severe penalties awaiting anyone who mistreats them. Evicting them is no easy matter, for as well as the protection law; it also dictates that eviction can only be carried out at a certain time of the year. Once the young of the bat are born they must be made welcome guests until they are able to fly freely, this period will last from early spring until September.

To make matters worse the amount of bat droppings (guano) rise considerably during the time the young are being reared. Bat colonies grow in size each year, by at least doubling their population. Unlike birds they do not disperse and go their own way when they are fully grown, they become part of the colony and will remain at the place of their birth. So if no action is taken, the size of the problem will just grow and grow until it is completely out of hand.

Bats which have been evicted from elsewhere or simply moved on because their numbers had become too great will soon find a new home. Nowhere is off limits and they will take up residency in your chimney, attic and even between walls. Preventing entry by sealing off access is obviously the best option, but who expects they would be invaded by bats in the first place. In no circumstances should they be allowed to gain entry to your living quarters. Bats will bite if they are picked up, and they do carry rabies and diseases in their droppings.

Professionals must be called in to ensure not only a safe, but legal removal takes place. Trapping is not an option because it would be dangerous for the bats and trappers. If any physical removal is needed it must be carried out by an experienced handler. The object is to send them all on their way safe and sound. The preferred way is to put into place cones and nets which will allow the bats to leave, but not return. Once they are gone the areas they occupied will need to be thoroughly disinfected, and steps taken to ensure that they never pay you another visit. If you are able to get rid of them you don't want them coming back.
