Stop Your Dog from Growling Around Food

Feeding time can be very dangerous when you have a dog that is aggressive around food, many dogs that have been rescued off the street mainly possesses this kind of aggression because they have had to fight for the food that they have. When in the process of feeding an aggressive dog, do not pet the dog while it is eating, or stand to close to its bowl. If your dog possesses this kind of aggression around food, it needs to be taken care very quickly.

Dogs need to be feed once or twice a day depending on the size of the dog, smaller dogs can be feed once a day and be ok. You as the dog owner must set a certain time of the day to feed your dog, or dogs if you have more then one. If you have a dog that is aggressive towards you and other dogs, then that dog needs to be, put on a chain by it self away from the other dogs.

You, as well as many other dog owners are probably wondering how you fix this problem for good. You see your dog is going to be aggressive towards you or anyone else that gets close to his food bowl, because he thinks you are, wanting to take it for yourself. Which is not the case, you need to get your dog used to you being around him when he is eating. Many dog owners will try to feed their dog wieners or Bologna from their hands.

However, be careful when trying this method for your dog may be subject to snap at you. You may want to get down to his level and at first throw the wieners close to him. At first, he will look at you then at the treat you have given him. Eventually your dog will get the understanding that you are not interested in his food, and will be eating out of your hand in no time.

It is sad to see dogs that have this kind of aggressive behavior when it comes to their food. Many times the owner that had them did not feed them properly, or take good care of them like most people do, or there was a bigger dog in the yard that always took there food away from them. Either way you look at it, the situation can be, handled very easily.

Another way to show your dog that you are not interested in his food, would be to sit his food bowl down and put the wieners in first then his dog food. Now put more wieners in his food bowl or bologna. Now with one hand you are going to hold his collar back and start to take his bowl in your hand, when he starts to growl tell him very calmly it is ok boy I am not here to take your food. Continue to move his food bowl away, and sooner, or later he will understand that you are not there to take his food but add more yummy treats to it. Soon the aggressive behavior will be gone for good.
