Top Six Dog Grooming Basics

Dog grooming is a part of taking care of a dog aside from giving it with California natural dog food; it is one of the basic needs. These dogs also need maintenance so they will be able to look and feel good about themselves and never scoot around and bite themselves cause of the itchiness they feel. Pet grooming greatly affects the dog's behavior as well as their physical appearance. Some may refer to Chicken soup for the Pet Lover for a guide. Here are my top six dog grooming basics.

1. Bathing

One of the most important things that a dog need to be maintained is its cleanliness that also affects its health. But bathing is not really a its favorite part of the day. Bathing can be challenging to the pet owners, but it will be rewarding afterwards when the dog is now clean and it smells good. There are special medicated shampoos to cure particular skin disorders and also fleas and ticks.

2. Hair Brushing

Brushing a dog's hair is essential to both the pet and the dog owner. It's keeping your dog feeling and looking great. It also removes the other nasty things that has been hanging on its fur, keeps the dog from shedding to your carpets, favorite sofa, and bed, it will also strengthen the bond between you and your pet because dogs usually enjoys being brushed.

3. Claw trimming

Cutting a dog's nail is important in grooming. They don't like it when having their nails cut. Dog's nails grow constantly and leave dogs vulnerable to very painful broken nails when untrimmed. But when it's trimmed too short it can cause pain, crippling, maybe even more and will permanently damage it. It is not bad really if once in a while you will try to ask advice from your friends with pets or read the helpful chicken soup for the pet lover.

4. Haircut

Haircuts are necessary to dogs with long hairs, mostly during summer because of the warm weather. Matted dog coats are the ones you need to check up on because they trap heat and moisture, causing irritation, redness, and odor. This should be removed by cutting down a dog's hair and which can also be prevented by frequent brushing and combing leaving the dogs hair untangled to prevent from matting.

5. Ear Cleaning

Dog ear cleaning is very important to your pet's health and will keep your dog's ear clean, free from pain and secure healthy pet. Simple methods using your eyes and your nose can detect problems on your dog's ears. Clean dog ears can prevent ear infections, this can be noticed by the signs of excessive ear wax, redness, constant scratching of ear, foul odor, head shaking and excessive matting in the external part of your dog's ear. If the dog's ear is not maintained well, this can be the breeding ground for mites, and other bacterial infections. Inspection of the dog's ear constantly will help reduce ear problems.

6. Dogs Dental Care

Dogs also need tooth brushing, to prevent them from causing bad breath and gum problems. This does not mean every after California natural dog food. Most common of this problem is Gingivitis or what we call gum disease; dogs are prone to developing calculus, a substance which is found around the gums usually color brown. It causes the dog's gums be pulled down exposing the teeth's root opening the possibility to infections. This can be prevented by tartar control chew-eez and bones but only brushing can reach areas which can't be reached by the tartar biscuits. Tooth brushing in dogs should be done at least twice a week. There are toothpaste specially formulated for a dog that is safe to be swallowed because dogs do not rinse and even spit after brushing.

Caring for your dog's hygiene will result to good health and prevention from any of the medical problems as he age.
