Exotic Pets: What Kinds Are There?

Pet lovers mostly have standard pets: birds, fish, cats and dogs. But when you抮e a real animal lover, you might want to think about getting an exotic pet. They range from not too odd to very strange. For certain, there is at least one for each personality.

A milder, not so eerie form of exotic pet is a reptile. Lizards and geckos are mainstream here, though some folks take pleasure in owning snakes and turtles. Subject to the laws in the state in which they dwell, you will find some folks who even possess alligators and crocodiles.

Geckos can be excellent pets because they are so colorful and supply a whole lot of amusement when climbing about on objects and walking on the perimeters of the housing. There are actually countless kinds of geckos. One of the most loved species for the house is the leopard gecko. They're good for hobbyists who get pleasure from breeding them.

Rare birds can make good pets, if not pricey ones. However they can be stunning and entertaining, besides pricey. Many of them are colorful and filled with interesting and happy noises.

The fox line is an exotic that many people like keeping as pets. The family includes arctic, fennec, red and tame silver foxes. All of these can be utterly striking animals, as can the wolf. If you desire to keep a wolf as a pet, though, you should be exceptionally knowledgeable about them. They are gentle when they are young, but they will get feisty once they get older.

Other furry friends that people take pleasure in as pets include bears, skunks (go figure -- most people try to keep away from them), hares, genets, degus, civets, raccoons, kinkajous, capybaras, and wallaroos.

Of course, some of the cool kids have monkeys. I'm not sure that having a pet that makes fun of me is ideal. Similar to this are baboons, chimpanzees and gibbons. There is no uncertainty that if you have a monkey, you'll be in for a swinging time.

Exotic pets are not only animals; there are folks who are attracted to bugs: spiders, scorpions, praying mantises, beetles as well as cockroaches (again, the majority of us try to get rid of those). It may be lucrative, however. More than one person has earned a huge wad of change because a film company paid them to use their bug collection in a motion picture, specifically tarantulas.

It all proves that it does definitely take all kinds -- of people and pets.
