Care

Having finches for pets are for people who do not have much time in hand as finches does not need much attention and they don抰 even like to be petted or held.?Finches need a clean environment, their water and food dishes must be clean and fresh food and water must be given daily. The paper on the bottom of their cage must be changed every two to three days and wash and dry their cage once a week including their perches and swings.?A bird bath can also be place inside the cage at least once a week especially during the summer season. Bathing is necessary for finches during their moulting and breeding season.

Housing

Finches cage, because they are small only requires a small space in someone抯 place and are great for people living in apartments. The placement of their cage is also important, you can place it near the window with views of the trees and sky. But also make sure to close the window tightly as they may be disturbed by the strong winds and a portion of the cage must have a shady spot where the finches can stay to avoid any direct sunlight. You can place perches in the opposite side of their cage to stimulate them to fly from one perch to another, as flying is their form of exercise. You must also remember that the width of the cage is more important than its height as finches needs ample space for flying. Placing the food and water dish on the opposite side of the dish also encourages the finches to fly and also prevents the food from spilling in the water. Their cage must also be placed in an area of the house where there is not much noise and activity, as finches gets easily disturbed.

Diet

One advantage of having finches for pets is that they are easy to feed. You can feed them with a good seed mixture and finch pellets, a small amount of boiled egg and finely chopped greens like vegetables and fruits must also be included. But always remember to remove the fresh food in their food dish after four hours to avoid any contamination. You can also hang cuttlebone inside their cage to give them unlimited calcium and nutrient supplement daily. Grit with charcoal can be sprinkled in the bottom of their cage as grit aid them in their digestion and also provides valuable minerals. Supplements can also be given occasionally like putting soluble vitamins and minerals in their drinking water.
