Given that most of us tend to live in apartments, the obvious question arises- "What kind of dog will do well in my apartment?" if you think in a similar manner, then you are not alone because very often people have trouble deciding the kind of dog they must adopt so that it has no difficulty in adapting to the apartment life.

We decided to address this inquiry with a list of our favorite apartment friendly dogs that can do well in smaller sized dwellings.

But before you proceed to the list, you may think we have added some larger breeds by mistake. Lets us clarify that- we have not! Don't let the size of the package trick you because a large dog does not necessarily need large amount of exercise and in fact they can be quite placid inside the house.

1. Yorkshire Terrier

This extra small wonder at just 7 pounds makes an excellent apartment dog not only because it takes up very less space but also because it is a non-barker.

2. Maltese

Slightly larger than the former one, the Maltese are very easy to groom and sheds very little. This is a quiet dog and just wants to be around its owners.

3. Boston Terrier

Weighing just between 12 and 18 pounds, this breed is also very attached to its owner which implies it doesn't mind living indoors even if it means curling up in a corner. This dog is quiet easy to train.

4. French Bulldog

This dog is small-ish but with the traits of a larger dog. The practical demeanor of this dog makes it suitable for any kind of living space. It is calm and quiet and often stays at one place.

5. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

At around 13 to 18 pounds, this breed is very calm and adaptable. This is also one of the amiable breeds which makes it easy to deal with them.

6. English Bulldog

The larger cousin of the French bulldog, the English bulldog weighs around 49 to 55 pounds but is very calm and stable. Most of them prefer lazing on a couch rather than the dog park.

7. Basset Hound

Due to its bulky stature (around 60 pounds), the Basset Hound might not look like a good apartment dog. However, they are quite like bulldogs- calm and adaptable. They can easily be kept busy.

8. Greyhound

Weighing around 60 to 80 pounds, the Greyhound may also seem like an odd choice for an apartment but most of them are actually couch potatoes. They are very adaptable and trainable and some of them prefer a sedentary lifestyle.

9. Mastiff

It sure is heavy and looks imposing! But it is actually a gentle giant and due to its large size, it has very low energy levels. This is a calm dog and a non-barker.

10. Great Dane

At a majestic 100 to 130 pounds, the Great Dane is a natural loafer and has a calm demeanor and is very friendly besides being very trainable. It even takes up less space than you would expect.
