How to Make Homemade Snake Catching Tools

How to Make Homemade Snake Catching Tools. Snake catching tools are designed to control and pick up a snake without causing injuries. Homemade snake catching tools have no sharp edges and may be padded to ensure the snake's safety. Snakes are less likely to get angry and thrash around when picked up near the middle of the body. Use the snake hook to keep an agitated snake in one area while allowing it to become tired. Always be gentle and move slowly when handling a snake.

Pick up or control a snake with a homemade snake catching tool.

Things Needed

  • Mop with screw-on mop head
  • Small piece of rubber hose
  • Rubber-coated rafter hook
  • 12-foot long, 3/4-inch wide leather strap
  • 5-foot long, 1-inch diameter PVC pipe

Homemade Snake Hook

Step 1

Unscrew and remove the mop head from the handle.

Step 2

Insert a small piece of rubber hose into the screw hole of the mop handle.

Step 3

Screw the rubber coated rafter hook into the mop handle. Adjust rubber hose piece as needed to make a tight fit.

Step 4

Use this homemade snake hook to hold, control or move a snake without causing it harm.

Homemade Snake Noose

Step 1

Fold the leather strap in half.

Step 2

Insert the folded leather strap into the PVC pipe, leaving a loop hanging out of one end.

Step 3

At the opposite end of the PVC pipe hold both ends of the leather strap with your hand.

Step 4

Gently slide the looped end of the leather over the snake's head, stopping approximately one-third to halfway down its body.

Step 5

Carefully lift the snake, holding the ends of the leather strap to secure the loop around its body.

Warnings

  • Have a pillowcase or other container handy to transport the snake in.
  • Snakes can be coaxed into a length of PVC that has been blocked on one end. Be ready to block the other end after the snake enters the pipe.

Warnings

  • Avoid pulling a snake noose too tightly to prevent injuring the snake.
  • Do not apply pressure around a snake's neck. This can anger the snake, and may cause harm to it.
