How to Build Peacock Enclosures. While peacocks can fly, they usually stay grounded to search for food. They are the national bird of India, but you can find them in countries across the world. They can live up to 50 years if cared for properly. Peacock enclosures must give adequate room for the peacock to roam as well as protect the bird from outside predators. Since they can fly, build an overhead barrier as well.
Measure and mark the area for the peacock enclosure, using a tape measure and sticks. For reference, build a 10-by-20 foot enclosure.
Dig a hole with a depth of 4 feet in each of the four corners and in the middle of the 20-foot sides of the enclosure. Use a shovel. Insert a 10-foot 4-by-4 wood plank vertically into each hole. Fill each hole with cement to provide a foundation for the post. Six feet of the wood posts should be exposed above ground.
Place 10-foot 4-by-4 planks horizontally on the top edges of the vertical posts. Hammer through the horizontal planks into the vertical posts. Place 10-foot 4-by-4 planks horizontally on the bottom edges in between the vertical posts. Hammer through the vertical posts into the ends of the horizontal planks. The horizontal and vertical planks make the enclosure's frame.
Dig a hole 4-feet deep that is three feet from one of the corners. Insert a 10-foot 4-by-4 wood plank vertically into each hole.
Fill each hole with cement to provide a foundation for the post. The posts complete the frame for the door.
Attach hinges to left edge of the door, using a power drill and wood screws. Attach the hinges from edge of the door to the post, using a power drill and wood screws.
Cover the sides of the walls using 2-by-4 inch welded wires cut to the dimensions of 10 feet-by-6 feet. Cut the welded wire with wire cutters. Nail the edges of the welded wire into the wood foundation.
Cut 1-inch poultry netting to the dimensions 10 feet-by-20 feet. Cut the poultry netting with fabric shears. Nail the edges of the poultry netting to the top of the wood foundation.
Pour a 2-inch layer of sand into the bottom of the enclosure. Cover the sand with wood shavings for easy waste cleanup.
