The Tibetan Terrier!

The Tibetan Terrier looks like a sheepdog due to its long profuse double coat. Such double coat gives it a huggable and shaggy look with its finer outer coat either straight or wavy and its inner coat soft and woolly. Coat colors vary and can be combined but this breed does not have the chocolate coat version. The eyes of this dog are dark and widely spaced, with lots of hair around it. The tail is feathered and its feet are unique – large, flat, and haired.

Tibetan Terrier Skills

The Tibetan Terrier, as the name implies, is from the Himalayan country of Tibet. It is an ancient breed originally bred, and kept purebred, by Tibetan monks for 2000 years. This breed was used as companions, lucky charms, watchdogs, and gifts to highly respected individuals as bringers of good fortune. It is a significant contributor to other Tibetan breeds.

Exercise Needs

This energetic dog should be given ample opportunities for exercise to release its energy. A long walk will be okay.

Living Conditions

The Tibetan Terrier can do well in an apartment as long as it gets regular outdoor exercise even in a small yard.

Grooming Requirements

Due to its heavy coat, the Tibetan Terrier requires regular brushing. Mist the coat with a conditioner then brush 2-3 times a day to remove loose hairs and prevent tangles. It should also be bathed weekly or every two weeks. Shedding very little and with regular grooming, the Tibetan Terrier is even compatible with allergy sufferers.

Health Issues

The Tibetan Terrier can be flea-sensitive owing to its heavy coat but overall, has very few health problems.

The Old English Sheepdog, for instance, is not only fluffy and playful, but is a good herder itself, even for kids, which it does by bumping gently into them.
