The French Bulldog!

The French Bulldog is a small dog that has a flat, square head, a rounded forehead, pug-like nose and large, perked-up ears. Its shoulders are wider than the tail area, giving the dog off a pear-shaped appearance. The French Bulldog’s skin, covered by a short yet soft coat, is quite loose, thus making it easy and quite enjoyable to pet. Its tail, on the other hand, can either be cork-screw or straight.

French Bulldog Skills

The French Bulldog was developed in 1860 to be a miniature version of the English Bulldog. The breed is a mixture of small Bulldogs that were imported from Great Britain by French dog breeders and French terriers. However, the name “French Bulldog” created uproar in England, since the Bulldog was originally an English breed. The breed is also known to be a persistent hunter of mice.

French Bulldog Personality

The French Bulldog is a very cheerful and affectionate dog that comes with an equally playful attitude. While it is generally friendly with everyone, it, more often than not, bonds more closely with one person. Most French Bulldogs also relate well with other breeds, although some males can be quite aggressive. And while they can be quite headstrong, they respond to patient and consistent training.

Exercise Needs

The French Bulldog love to run around and play for hours. However, the flat-nosed breed should not be exercised in hot weather, as it may experience heat strokes.

Living Conditions

The French Bulldog can adapt to living in small living quarters, as they are relatively active indoors. However, it prefers cold climates because they are quite sensitive to extreme heat.

Grooming Requirements

The French Bulldog requires minimal grooming, apart from the regular brushing.

Health Issues

The French Bulldog is most susceptible to eye and respiratory problems. It may also experience having a swollen abdomen when it becomes overweight. Another concern would be that female French Bulldogs deliver puppies via caesarian section, because of the puppies’ large heads. It should be noted that French Bulldogs are high-maintenance dogs and as such, vet bills can also be quite high.

...you may also enjoy having a Bichon Frise. This breed is very friendly and affectionate and revels in the company of the owner and his family, making it an ideal family dog. The Bichon Frise is so sociable that it relates well with both humans and other pet animals.
