Nowadays, Dachshund training is not just about using the traditional method such as crate or leash training. Because of the advancement of modern technology, more and more methods are being discovered each day to aid dog trainers and enthusiasts.

Though crate and leash are proven effective tools in Dachshund training, people are still not contented with it. They keep on discovering and formulating tools that could make dog training successful in just a snap of the fingers.

Electronic training methods are the product of technology and desire for comfort. The use of these electronic training methods such as remote collar had been the subject among dog experts and enthusiasts lately. Also coined as "shock collar", this tool was once used primarily as a corrective device.

The use of this remote collar varies depending on the goal of the exercise. This remote collar comes in many different settings, ranging from low to high. Varying setting is designed to cater the perception differences among individuals. The question on whether to use low or high depends primarily on the trainer of a particular dog.

Usually, this tool is used to encourage dogs to respond to commands given especially when the trainer is away from the dog. The dog is being placed with a collar at a low level. Upon giving of command, the collar button is pressed either immediately or after some time and will only be released when the dog has completed the command. This will let the dog understand that performing or ignoring the command will turn the collar on or off.

Owners with already trained dogs also use this collar to modify their dog's behavior. Just like in the case of deaf dogs, when the dog is at a distance or not facing the handler, this collar serves as substitute for verbally calling the dog's name.

Remote collar may be important to Dachshund training because Dachshunds are known to chase and hunt badgers and other animals such as birds, squirrels and lizards. These activities mean off-leash and far from handler and long distance communication can be difficult if proper tools are not being used. Using remote collar makes this kind of training easier.

However, some question the cruelty of this tool. They think that using electronic shocks is a form of cruelty to dogs and will cause problems such as physical and psychological concerns. Honestly, this problem largely depends on the handler or trainer. These tools will surely cause problems only if they're misused. It is important that before using any electronic training tool, make sure that you are aware of its functions and proper usage to prevent Dachshund training problems later.
