When this breed was first brought to light they were Mainly used for guarding plantations, and were later introduced to the United States of America.

As mastiffs go this breed is big, they can reach up to 2 feet tall and weigh in at over 100 pounds .The fur ranges from black to tan and even yellow, brindled dogs been high in value. The faculae features are very similar to that of the cross breed the bloodhound.

mastiffs can be gentle or aggressive when the situation requires it, very very loyal and make a valued member to anyone's family, very good with children also.

hunting comes natural to the Brazilian mastiff because of their bloodhound instincts, the purpose of the mastiff in the hunt is to mainly track the hunted animal , and after capture to hold the animail with causing no damage. Their real name starting with fila means to hold in Portuguese.

this breed is not prone to obesity so they are more athletic and a generally healthier dog's, along with this comes the loyalty and protective side of the mastiff.

Strangers be ware, the Brazilian mastiff has the same traits as the others, strangers are not welcome, this is their protective side which comes out and they have been known to attack without any reason if the face don't fit, so be nice to strangers and make sure the dog is kept out of the way.

The way to a Brazilian mastiff's heart is food and love, feed them and spend quality time with your dogs and the will repay you with loyalty and be protective till the end, they have even been known to be slightly aggressive to judges in dog shows.
