When Cats Play The Pest: Protect Your Garden

Wouldn't life be more splendid if your cat will stop rampaging in your garden? The first step you have to do is to make sure that your fences are properly installed. Since cats are inquisitive and sly, even little spaces in your fences could be an opportunity for them to enter into your garden. Jumping over fences is quite easy for your cats too since they have nimble and flexible body. Mounting a taut wire over your fence is practical since this will prevent them from jumping over.

In case your cat slipped through your garden, making it move out may be hard. However, there are ways to get it out of there. As we all know, dogs hate cats so most people use dogs to scare away cats in the garden. Some breeds of dogs that are effective are Dobermans and Pit Bull.

Another way to scare cats is to squirt water on them. A water hose and a bucket of water are the most basic things you need for this method. If the cat refuses to leave with one squirt, repeat the procedure until it takes the hint. Aside from a pail and a garden hose, you may utilize a sprinkler. If you plan to buy a sprinkler, look for a motion activated one from your local hardware store. This type of sprinkler can immediately perceive if there is someone or something in your lawn. The sprinkler will be able to target your cat, squirt water at it and drive it away. The garden will then be cat-free because it will recognize that the garden is not its place to stay.

The helpless plants in your garden also need protection from your cat. Sometime, cats stay under bushes and make these bushes their litter box. To solve this problem, set some moth balls among the plants. Moth balls are known to drive away not only insects but your cats too because cats do not like their scent. Not only moth balls, cayenne, citronella, lavender, lemon grass and mustard can also do the trick. The scent of tobacco is also repulsive for cats.

Ultrasonic devices can also be used to prevent your cats from ruining your plants. These devices emit high frequency sounds that are not perceptible to people but irritating for cats. This kind of cat repellent has varieties such as the cordless type, the one with infrared motion sensor and the like. Consider how large your garden is when purchasing ultrasonic devices. Make sure that it can cover your entire garden to guard your plants from cats.

Commercial repellents are also used to stop cats from going into the garden. Commercial repellents has chemicals that produce odor that are repulsive for cats. This stuff can ward off other animals as well. Commercial repellents do have chemicals, so be careful in using them because some of these chemicals can be hazardous to health. Do not use commercial repellents on garden plots that contain vegetable crops.

To sum things up, you may utilize any of the following methods: building fences, squirting water, water sprinklers, dogs, ultrasonic devices and commercial repellents. Cats and gardens do not mix well together especially if the cats near you are destructive. Let your cat know that you are the one in charge.
