  1. Tick control from the surrounding environment



Tick control must start with the surrounding environment as ticks originate from these places. Extreme weather condition and frost does not kill ticks so you need to treat your yard, garden, and your dog’s kennel irrespective of the time of the year. Spray these areas and clean up the left over leaves. You must have a clean and neat garden with enough sunlight hitting the ground. These efforts are essential to keep the fleas away from your surroundings.

In case there are wild growths around your house, then you have to clean them up as fleas and ticks usually breed in these areas.


  1. Topical medication used once a month



You must use topical once a month to get rid of ticks and fleas from your pet. There are different medications for cats and dogs so you must read a label carefully before you buy any product. You must also read the ingredients of the product well and in case you have a pet cat then does not use a tick control medication, which has permethrin, as this ingredient is fatal for cats.

Spray

Flea and tick control medications come in the aerosols and spray bottles. Both these can be used on a dog but in case of cats, it is suggested not to use aerosols as cats usually get scared by the hiss sound of such container. You must you can also put some tick control spray on a cotton cloth and then wipe the body of the pet with the cloth.

Tick control by powder

Tick control can be done with the help of medicated powder but such things can cause severe health problem in pets especially if the pet is asthmatic. Powders can also turn it to be messy so it is better that powders are applied in a well-ventilated room.
