Are You Concerned About What Your Cat Is Eating?

Cat food companies will often decieve consumers by using terms to describe their foods as; primium, super premium, quality and natural but there is no legal or scientific definitions for these terms. The source of the ingredients are very important and since cats are carnivores, the source should be animal based.

Is your cat overweight and nothing you've tried has yeilded the results you wanted?

It's probably safe to say that your cat is eating too much of the wrong foods and leads a sedentary life-style. Your cat needs exercise like - fetching a ball that you throw, climbing a tree or playing with toys. Do you think that cats need carbohydrate-laden snacks? Just like humans, this will cause obesity in your cat. Obesity in your cat is a sign of a serious problem. In order to keep him/her around, a change in your cat's diet is necessary to avoid costly and serious illnesses.

Do you know what to change your cat's diet too?

Let's incorporate some common sense into this. To do that, we should consider your cat's origin. Just where did your domestic cat(s) originate? Your domestic cat is a descendent of the wild cats that roam the African Deserts. Mother Nature has well-suited the cat to survive and even thrive in a desert environment.

A desert is a dry environment yeilding very little water. Since that is the origin of our domestic cats, Mother Nature designed a cat's body to be efficient in digesting meat with a low-thrist drive. Rarely will a cat eat plant food and when he does, it comes from the stomach of his/her prey.

Mother Nature designed a cat in such a manner that dry, processed and plant foods are not part of the cats' evolutionary diet. Cats' digestive system is not designed to extract needed nutrients from plants but is well designed to extract needed nutrients from meat. Their digestive system is acidic and short - that means that they can efficiently digest meat, bones and even most bacteria.

In the desert, it's a common occurance to see cats eating prey that's infested with flies and other parasites.

The bones of a cat's prey serve as tooth brushes, the organ meat provide moisture and the prey's stomach content provide the only plant food the cat eats.

Since cats don't have a high thirst drive, prolong use of dry food causes chronic dehydration, diabetes, urinary track problems, a weakened immune system and eventual death.

Who's interest is best served when commercial cat food companies produce such low-grade foods?

PROFITS - grains are cheaper than meats - then they load up the dry foods with harmful preservatives. All of this spells danger for our domestic cats.

The unproveable claims made by the commercial cat food companies that their dry foods are wholesome, nutritious, all natural and well-balanced flies in the face of reason.

What should your cat be fed?

You should feed your cats a diet that closely mimics the diet of their predecessors. A raw meat diet with a little taurine sprinkled on top. Avoid feeding your cat(s) dry foods or any commercial food with any of their first five ingredients listed as a carbohydrate.

In most instances, premature cat deaths are diet related. This can be avoided by feeding your cat a species-appropriate diet. A meat-based diet with taurine sprinkled on top is best. Always keep in mind that cats have different dietary requirements than humans. Doing this will keep your feline companion by your side for years to come.
